Learn the Basics of Proper Charcuterie

Charcuterie is an art that originated in France more than four centuries ago, but it is not really a food. Charcuterie has a somewhat different connotation in the US and other western countries than it does in France. Charcuterie (cheese making) is a branch of traditional cooking dedicated to preparing prepared meat products such as ham, bacon, salami, sopressato, sausage, etc., mostly from beef. Although it is not a food, there are some rules of etiquette that must be followed if one is to eat these products with proper etiquette. This article will teach you the basics of proper charcuterie and other related things you need to know if you want to be a better charcutier.

When preparing these types of food, it is always advisable to make use of the freshest available meat products you can find. You need to take into account the time taken in cooking for the preparation of these products. If you want to prepare them quickly, then consider using high quality cuts of beef that are available at the local supermarket. These cuts of beef will not only be tastier and better for your health, but also quicker in the cooking process. It is therefore recommended that you should buy the highest quality cuts of beef. Of course, the quality and texture of the product depend on the cut of beef. It may take longer in cooking beef that is of lesser quality than beef that is of higher quality.

Make sure that you have all the ingredients before you start cooking your meal. It is very important to have everything ready for your cooking session, including the appropriate utensils and knives. Even though it is not required, it would be better to have the meat that you intend to cook on the side or in the refrigerator so that you can cut it into smaller pieces.

The knife used for the process is also important. The size of the knife should be just large enough for cutting the meat without making it too big. It should also be sharp and well balanced so that you can cut the meat with ease and at the same time avoid injury to yourself. Never use kitchen knives for this type of work. They are usually too small and will be easier to cut yourself than if something goes wrong with your cut.

Make sure that you have cleaned your knife properly and wipe it after every use. After cleaning, make sure that the blades of the knife are oiled well so that it will perform efficiently in your culinary task. Use a cloth dipped in vegetable oil if you do not want to use oil on your food.

For your utensils, it is always a good idea to invest in a professional-grade, well-made and well-assembled utensils rather than those that are made from plastic or wood. While plastic and wood utensils are easy to clean and maintain, they will not last long. Investing in the right utensils would ensure that your cooking is professional and efficient.
